The Webb Schools is actually two schools (Webb School and Vivian Webb School) that are located on the same campus, thereby “offering single-sex education in a co-educational environment,” which is quite unique among boarding schools. During 9th and 10th grade, most classes are single sex (exceptions may be if a 9th or 10th grade student is taking advanced math or language courses), and during 11th and 12th grades, classes are mixed. With approximately 100 students per grade, Webb is a medium-sized boarding school, with approximately 65% boarding students.
Apart from having 2 schools on one campus, another unique aspect about Webb is the paleontology museum on campus, and also the opportunity to participate in digs over the summer with a Webb teacher.
The school is set on a hill, so my tour consisted of driving around in a golf cart, which enabled us to see the sorts fields up at the top of the hill, and also the chapel, where chapel talks are held twice a week (all seniors have the opportunity to present a chapel talk). There were also various dorms and faculty houses along the path, and the classroom buildings, library, and museum, are closer to the bottom of the hill.
Webb’s location in Claremont, CA means that the school enjoys nice weather year-round. Students can also take advantage of being close to the beach, the mountains, and LA, with weekend trips often organized by teachers, who take van-loads of students to various activities and locations.
