George Washington University

Overview

George Washington University (commonly referred to as GW) is an urban school, with the main campus encompassing a number of city blocks a short walk from the Washington Mall (large, public grassy area). In addition to the downtown campus, GW also has a Mt. Vernon campus, where approximately 1/3 of freshmen live, and where many freshman courses are taught. This campus is 2.5 miles from the main campus, and it’s a very green, suburban feeling space, which is connected to the main campus by regular shuttle bus service.

Curriculum

Being located in the capital of the US, international affairs and politic science are two of the most popular majors. GW is also strong in fields such as biology and psychology, and they just finished building a state of the art engineering and science building. GW students are great at putting knowledge into action, by using the resources of the university and the city to complement the learning done inside of classrooms.

Tuition

One unique aspect about GW’s tuition is that it’s locked in at the first year rate, so students and their families know exactly what they will have to pay each year – no surprises of larger than expected tuition increases.

Unique Programs

GW also has some interesting selective programs, including their university honors program, and a women’s leadership program. GW is definitely worth checking out for students who want a school in a city, with good access to internships and ambitious students.
