University of Richmond

Overview

University of Richmond is located on a beautiful campus a few miles from downtown Richmond (the capitol of Virginia), surrounded by trees and with a very suburban feel. URichmond has a very strong business school, but unlike many of its peers, everyone at URichmond arrives as a freshman undecided, and most students who want to pursue a business major apply to join the business school at the end of freshman or during sophomore year. The business school has a strong program for budding entrepreneurs, and many connections with businesses in the community enable many internship opportunities.

Leadership

URichmond is also home to the Jepson School of Leadership, which was the first school of leadership studies established in the US. The program is quite competitive to get into, and students must complete an application process that includes essays, recommendations, and interviews in order to gain acceptance into the program.

Curriculum

The law school at URichmond is also very well regarded, and while this is a graduate school, undergrads are able to take classes and have access to professors. Students at URichmond are also motivated to engage in research, with the ‘Richmond Guarantee’ offering all students the chance to do a summer internship or research project and get paid by the school to do it.

Conclusion

Sports are also popular, and URichmond is the only college in the entire US to have the spider as their mascot. URichmond seems like a great fit for a student looking for a medium-sized school with motivated students who are professionally-oriented, enjoy getting involved, and strike a good balance between academics and extra-curricular pursuits.
